Antimicrobial coatings are used to provide supplemental protection against the growth of microorganisms in a wide range of applications. Bacteria, fungi or algae, when present, can produce unwanted odors, cause discoloration, create bifouling or produce mildew. In certain cases this can also lead to degradation or corrosion of the base material.

This new antimicrobial powder coating, provides protection against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms. These coatings were developed in a proprietary manufacturing process using the additive AlphaSan®, a silver containing zirconium phosphate-based ceramic ion exchange particles. Silver is known to be a safe material for human contact that is very effective against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms.

AlphaSan® is NSF and EPA FIFRA approved for drinking water contact and FDA approved for food packaging applications.
